Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been long touted as the most anticipated movie of 2015 – though that should hardly be a surprise given how much buzz has been surrounding the return of the long-dormant franchise ever since it was announced.
As we celebrate the 38th Anniversary of the original release, it seems this buzz has carried on into the 3D printing world. We have noticed a fantastic glut of Star Wars inspired models being uploaded to 3DShare. Anything from the logo to the Millennium Falcon and all of your favourite characters can be found in 3D printable form.
As the films become unleashed to a wider audience, the difference in the way fans can
physically interact with the franchise could not be more obvious. The cult classic, vintage toys available 30 years ago have been replaced with an ability for designers to create their own spin on the iconic characters, old and new.
Perhaps the most interesting and creative interpretations on the modern day classic have come from 3DShare designer Bon Garçon! His contemporary models are interspersed with easily printable fan pieces. With files available to download and remix for just 99c, or even free – the ability for this new generation to interact with the characters has never been easier. This may the start of a new generation of makers, transitioning between the cinema world and the physical world. With only the imaginations of these inspired young minds being the limiting factor in how the Star Wars toys are remembered by this generation, we cannot wait to see how 3D printing plays a role going forward!
We cannot wait to see what the designers come up with next! Please join the conversation to let us know your thoughts, or how you’d like to see the platform develop to empower you as a user, or catch up with us on twitter, facebook or google+.
